42nd Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) Annual Scientific Meeting
Blueprint Genetics will be attending the 42nd Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) Annual Scientific Meeting.
The theme for the conference is “Building Bridges” to convey the importance of linking research and clinical practice, genetics, and genomics to other specialties and engaging with the broader community.
The conference will cover various aspects of human genetics and genomics, with the committee planning sessions around the following topics:
- National and international collaboration
- Translation, discoveries, and therapies
- The past, present, and future of screening
- Reaching the community

Elvira began her career in genetic counseling at Hunter Genetics in 1997 after completing her Graduate Diploma in Genetic Counseling through the University of Newcastle. She went on to develop the first online Graduate Certificate in Human Genetics for health professionals in Australia, and as a Teaching Fellow, coordinated the Graduate Diploma program until 2004. She has experience in prenatal and general genetic counseling and genetic counseling for familial motor neurone disease. Elvira has a strong research background, and obtained her Masters designing, delivering, and evaluating cystic fibrosis carrier screening along side nuchal translucency ultrasound. She went on to complete her PhD evaluating genetic counseling via videoconferencing for women at high risk of breast/ovarian cancer. She has published in areas such as telehealth, adolescent’s attitudes to melanoma, cultural competence in oncology, genetic aspects of alzheimer’s, treatment-focused genetic testing in breast cancer, and many more.
